UNIT 5- ANIMALS

In this unit we are learning how to classify animals.

We have divided the class in groups. Each one is looking for information of one group of animals and then making a poster about it. After that, all the groups will do oral presentations to help the other children learn about that group of animals.

Here you have a chart to compare the characteristics of each group of animals.

You can also practice classifying animals by answering this questions

Practice with these games:

Depending on what they eat, we can classify animals in:

Herbivores (animals that only eat plants)
Carnivores (animals that eat other animals)
Omnivores ( animals that eat plants and other animals)

UNIT 4- HOW WE EAT

This week we have started this unit to know how we eat.
First, we have reviewed what you know and looked for information in groups with the books from 2nd and 4th grades. Today we have prepared a mini-book to study the processes in the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

WHY DO WE EAT?

We need to take food and water to be alive. If we don´t do it, we die.

WHY IS FOOD IMPORTANT TO BE ALIVE?

Food give us the nutrients our body needs to:
- Have energy
- Grow
- Be healthy

WHAT FOOD DO WE NEED TO EAT?

We have to eat food from different groups

Fruits and vegetables (For HEALTH)
Bread and cereals (For ENERGY)
Meat, fish, eggs, milk and dairy (For GROWTH)

WHEN DO WE HAVE TO EAT?

We need to eat 4/5 times a day. To have a balanced diet we have to eat food from the different groups of food.

HOW DOES OUR BODY GET THE NUTRIENTS IT NEEDS FROM FOOD?

First, we put the food in the mouth. When we chew, the teeth break down the food into small pieces. The tongue and the saliva mix these pieces to make a ball.

When we swallow, this ball goes down the esophagus (long tube) to the stomach. Here, the muscles shake the food and mixes it with gastric acids to turn it into a liquid

Then, this liquid goes into the small intestine (5 to 7 meters long tube) Here, some enzimes produced by the liver and pancreas help to dissolve the food even more. Along the small intestine, the nutrients that our body needs are absorbed and go into the blood.

The remain food goes into the large intestine, which absorbs the liquid and compacts what our body doesn´t need (waste). This is called the poop, that we push out of our bodies through the anus.

WHAT´S THE NAME OF THE BODY SYSTEM THAT HELP US TO GET NUTRIENTS FROM FOOD?

Digestive system

UNIT 3- HOW WE MOVE
Next week we will start this new unit to learn about our body and how it moves.

Do you want to practice the names of some bones? Do it while you dance this funny song

Now that we are talking about the senses, check this videos to learn interesting things about them

UNIT 1- LIVING THINGS

Here you have the chart we made in class with the information about the life processes of living things
